Double Bass

Hey Everyone! Today we are going to look at the Double Bass or the Stand up Bass! The double bass is read in the same Bass Clef as an electric bass. It is made from many different types of wood and was made a long time before the electric bass. It is either plucked like an electric or played using a bow, much like a cello. In jazz the double bass is usually plucked while in classical orchestras it is played with a bow. Before the 20th century the double bass only had three strings compared to the normal five to six strings that were normal at the time. The double bass looks a look like a giant violin but if it is looked at closely you can see that the base of the double bass is wider than that of a violin. A violin also has wider shoulders compared to a double bass. Some famous double basses are Ray Brown, Scott Owen, Marshall Lytle and Edgar Meyer. That’s all for today folks, hope you found it fascinating!
