Christmas!

Hey everyone!

Sorry about the lack of posts but school ended along with my computing class so I haven't been able to find a good chance to update. It should be a bit easier now but I wont be updating again for a while due to holidays. The blog should be back up around the 20th-23rd of Jan.

Merry Christmas everyone and have a happy new year!!!!

Note: The pic on the right is of my bass which is normally plain black but I wrapped it for a Christmas performance with the school band. Hope you enjoy!

Double Bass

Hey Everyone! Today we are going to look at the Double Bass or the Stand up Bass! The double bass is read in the same Bass Clef as an electric bass. It is made from many different types of wood and was made a long time before the electric bass. It is either plucked like an electric or played using a bow, much like a cello. In jazz the double bass is usually plucked while in classical orchestras it is played with a bow. Before the 20th century the double bass only had three strings compared to the normal five to six strings that were normal at the time. The double bass looks a look like a giant violin but if it is looked at closely you can see that the base of the double bass is wider than that of a violin. A violin also has wider shoulders compared to a double bass. Some famous double basses are Ray Brown, Scott Owen, Marshall Lytle and Edgar Meyer. That’s all for today folks, hope you found it fascinating!

Hey everyone! Today we are going to have a look at one my own personal idols, a man that has revolutionized the world of music for all bass players, Victor Wooten. Victor has been playing bass since he was only three years old, taught by his older bother Regi. He preformed for the first time when he was five years old. Victor is the father of four and a loving husband. He was first the bassist in his family’s band which consists of Regi, Roy, Rudy, Joseph.
Victor was inspired by Standley Clarke, Larry Graham and Bootsy Collins, all of whom I will be sure to add a bit of info on later. The bothers band settled in Newport News, Virginia and become the main attraction at the Busch Gardens theme park which enabled them to gain connections to Nashville and New York. Victor moved to Nashville where he worked and met Jonell Mosser and Béla Fleck. Later Fleck, Victor, his brother Roy and Howard Levy made the band called Flecktones. The band had three successful ablums before Levy left in 1993. Victor was able to show his amazing skills on his bass during this time and became a bass legend, earning a band Grammy. Victor has been more focused on solo work after the trio broke up.
